WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME

INVOLVED

IN OUR PROJECTS?

Kep Gardens is an independent, non-profit organization aiming for long-term sustainability.  To achieve this, our immediate plans include a tourist boat, bungalows and restaurant to provide Kep Gardens with an income to support the various schools.  Our fruit trees and vegetable garden will enable us to be self supporting as will our chicken farm

There are many ways you may help us.  Monetary donations would be greatly appreciated to enable us to get these self help projects off the ground.  Donations of books for the library or resources for the classrooms are always welcome.  Volunteering your time to teach various skills you may have to particular sections of the community is another option.  Once accommodation for volunteers has been built we are hoping to include longer term volunteer teachers into our school programmes.

The most helpful way at this time would be a monthly donation to help cover operating costs and resources for the schools, while we put our main fundraising drive into our new school house.  Our activities will not only provide employment but also training for the local village youth.  Any help you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

We are not affiliated with any political or religious organizations.  All funds will be used entirely for the project.  We do not employ consultants or pay commissions of any kind.

Thank you for your time.  We wish you well.

  CURRENT FUNDRAISING FOCUS

Our main focus at the moment is to build a two classroom schoolhouse combined with a separate library/activity centre for whole community use.  Obviously, we will also need toilet facilities.  We will use local labour for construction, consequently offering casual employment for many village people.

We estimate this will cost $25,000.  $6,000 of this will be used to ship a 20 cubic metre container from Australia full of library books, toys, teaching resources, student stationery, whiteboards and general classroom needs.  Many thanks to friends and schools in Australia who donated these goods.

These facillities will enable us to increase our student intake with the help of volunteer teachers.  Apart from English classes, the classrooms will be available for a variety of uses from specialized classes eg Khmer literature, music, art, farming techniques and computer classes.  Many village people never had the chance to learn to write their own language so a Khmer teacher will be employed to offer this service.

The library/activity centre can become a drop-in centre for the community, organizing mothers' groups for young children, story telling etc.  There are many possibilities for the use of these facilities.  The library will also offer internet/email use as more and more students learn about computers and their uses.

These facilities will not only provide formal training but will offer the opportunity to learn about the world and the opportunities education offers.
