IN OUR PROJECT?
CURRENT FUNDRAISING FOCUS
- Because of the success of our school we need a larger building where we can accommodate more classes.
- We have designed a 2 classroom building which will be a bright and welcoming environment in which to learn.
- We will use local labour for construction, consequently offering casual employment for many village people.
But to start we need to raise some initial funds towards the $14,000 we estimate it will cost.
- As part of reaching out to the community we will set up a library that can be accessed by all.
- With a small purpose built area we can provide an attractive, comfortable area with shelving and seating.
The cost is estimated at $6,000.
Apart from the buildings we have some practical needs. The most pressing are:-
- Our container! We have a container in Adelaide full of educational and teaching resources. Also books for our community library. We urgently need the funds to get it here and bring it to Kep Gardens. $6000
- A generator - a fully installed power source to run our school and community library. Once we have power we can start computer classes. $6000
- Computer – an initial computer to make resources and conduct school administration and correspondence. $3500
- Desks – approximately 44 wooden desks and chairs . $880
- Water tanks for self-sufficiency – 4 x $250. $1000
These facilities will enable us to increase our student intake with the help of volunteer teachers. Apart from English classes, the classrooms will be available for a variety of uses:
- Computer classes - When we have a source of power and suitable accommodation, computers and equipment we can start computer lessons for our students.
- Khmer classes - Many village people never had the chance to learn to read and write their own language so a Khmer teacher will be employed to offer this service.
- Drop-in Centre - The library/activity centre can become a drop in centre for the community,
These facilities will not only provide formal training but will offer the opportunity to learn about the world and the opportunities education offers.
There are many ways you may help us. Monetary donations would be greatly appreciated to enable us to get this project off the ground. Donations of books for the library or resources for the classrooms are always welcome. Volunteering your time to teach various skills you may have to particular sections of the community is another option. Once accommodation for volunteers has been built we are hoping to include longer term volunteer teachers into our school programmes.
Another helpful way would be a monthly donation to help cover operating costs and resources for the schools, while we put our main fundraising drive into our new school house. Our activities will not only provide employment but also training for the local village youth. Any help you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
We are not affiliated with any political or religious organizations. All funds will be used entirely for the project. We do not employ consultants or pay commissions of any kind.
